Almond Blossom, First Light · 2024
White blossom branches held against
a turquoise morning sky.
The collection's one morning frame — proof that the studio does own an alarm clock. First light turns the orchard turquoise for about twenty minutes, and the white blossom burns against it like paper held to a lamp.
It hangs as the optimist of the six: the only work about beginning rather than ending. Brides, nurseries and east-facing kitchens have all claimed one.
Three dawn visits to the same three branches; the third morning gave ten minutes of perfect turquoise before the sky went ordinary blue. Shot looking straight up, lying flat in wet grass.
Lie down in the orchard at dawn and the sky does the composing for you.
