Blue Hour Irises · 2024
Violet irises studied in the last blue minutes
of the evening garden.
The quietest frame in the collection. A bed of irises photographed at the exact minute the garden stops being green and starts being blue — petals holding a violet the eye can barely separate from the dark.
Collectors hang it where they read. It rewards the slow look: each bloom carries its own small lamp of yellow at the centre.
A windless evening, a low stepladder, and a macro lens stopped down to keep the whole bed honest. Five frames over eleven minutes; the middle one is the edition.
Some colours only exist for eleven minutes a day. This is one of them.
