Edwin Marsh, founder of Emberwick, on a rooftop under the night sky

About

My pictures are made after dark and out in the open, in the short hour when a place changes colour. I look for what usually goes unnoticed: how long a shadow lies, how warm a lamp looks on wet stone, how much empty sky a frame can hold.

Emberwick is a one-photographer studio: I shoot, I print, I sign. Every edition passes through my hands twice — once behind the camera and once at the press — before it is numbered, embossed and released.

One room, one press, no shortcuts

The studio wall carries every work in progress — proofs, rejects, and the occasional keeper. Printing happens here on cotton rag, one frame at a time, with the same patience the night demanded in the first place.

  • Shot on location, never composited
  • Printed, signed and embossed by hand
  • Editions capped, then retired forever
